Our Impact

90% of high school seniors in our funded programs graduate from high school.
Khang Truong is one of these students. Troung attended the Portland Afterschool Tennis & Education High School Academy, which was started with funding from USTA Serves. He was recently selected as one of the 1,000 Gates Millennium Scholars for the GMS Class of 2012. As a Gates Millennium Scholar, funds are available for Khang to attend any U.S. accredited college or university of his choice. He will be attending Oregon State University this coming fall semester.

Khang has been an outstanding member of the PAST&E High School Academy, representing PAST&E throughout the community as a member of the PAST&E Jr. Team Tennis team and other area USTA junior tournaments. He was the first-place winner of the National Student Athlete Competition in 2010. Khang is an excellent coach/tutor/mentor for PAST&E younger scholar athletes and is currently the co-captain of a 12-&-under Jr. Team Tennis team. He also plays No. 1 doubles on the Benson High School tennis team.
During our "Serving Up Success Summer Program," Khang put his excellent computer and design skills to work to create weekly travel videos to get our scholar-athletes excited about the next country PAST&E explores. Last year, the PAST&E curriculum was "Island Hoping Around the World." This summer, Khang is working on the new curriculum theme, "The Great Rivers of the World."
