Avid tennis fans and legends of the sport came together on Friday, Sept. 6 to raise funds for the USTA Foundation at the 16th-annual US Open Pro-Am at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Twenty participants earned the opportunity to play tennis alongside Hall of Famers and former champions including Tracy Austin, James Blake, Darren Cahill, Lindsay Davenport, Mary Joe Fernandez, Jan Michael Gambill, Brad Gilbert, Liezel Huber, Luke Jensen, Murphy Jensen, Mark Knowles, Robby Koenig, Mark Philippoussis, Richey Reneberg, Chanda Rubin, Greg Rusedski, Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, Vince Spadea, Jeff Tarango and Mark Woodforde.
"It's nice to get out and sweat a little bit, and it's for a great cause to provide opportunities in tennis and education, as well as life skills, for young people," Rubin said.
"We're making this collective effort, and it just makes it more fun."
The event, which raised over $500,000, included lunch in a luxury suite and an afternoon watching the men’s doubles final between Juan Sebastián Cabal and Robert Farah and Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos, and the men’s singles semifinals.
The Pro-Am players and guests enjoyed suite visits and a Q&A by legendary coach Nick Bollettieri, former Top 10 player and current U.S. Davis Cup captain Mardy Fish and two-time Grand Slam finalist Philippoussis.
