The USTA Foundation Programs & Services team leveraged College MatchDay events at the USTA National Campus to provide aspirational experiences for NJTL chapters throughout the 2020 college tennis season.
Participants from five NJTL chapters from around the state of Florida played integral parts at all three College MatchDay events in at the Campus throughout the spring season.
Student-athletes from the MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation in Jacksonville and Aces In Motion in Gainesville attended University of Florida vs. Florida State men's match on Feb. 1, while members from the Frontline Outreach Sports Center, which serves the greater Orlando area, cheered for the Notre Dame and USC women on Feb. 15.
In March, the Posh Rock Tennis Foundation, serving central Florida, and Team Junior Tennis, which operates in Pinellas County, Tampa Bay and the Manatee, Sarasota & Charlotte area, traveled to support the women's match between two Top 10 powerhouses in Florida State and Ohio State at the season's final College MatchDay event.
At each match, groups of 20 to 25 children participated in an on-court Net Generation demonstration, were recognized on court, and accompanied the players for team introductions and the coin tosses in both singles and doubles.
Created in 2013 by the USTA, College MatchDay showcases some of the best college tennis teams the sport has to offer, and with the opening of the USTA National Campus in 2017, College MatchDay found its permanent home. For more information on the College MatchDay experience, click here.
