In his years as a broadcaster, Bill Macatee has seen what kind of impact a great player can have on the sport of tennis. As the newest member of the USTA Foundation board of directors, Macatee is going to do his best to help tennis impact the lives of those in under-resourced communities.

As a member of the USTA Foundation board, Macatee, renowned for his work with CBS Sports and Tennis Channel, will serve as an ambassador to promote the Foundation’s mission to utilize tennis and education to help those in need. He will also work to promote the Foundation’s national outreach efforts to assist under-resourced youth and individuals with disabilities.

“It’s an honor for me to join the USTA Foundation as a member of the board of directors to help bring awareness of the great work this organization has done on behalf of our youth around the country,” said Macatee. “It’s humbling for me to be a part of the sport in a new dynamic where education is a key component in driving positive change and influence. I’m fortunate that my career has led me on this unique journey, and now I’m equally as excited and committed to have the opportunity to work with the USTA Foundation.”

Macatee’s sports broadcasting career has spanned more than 30 years. During that time, he has anchored network coverage of all four Grand Slam events in tennis, as well as many of the most prominent and prestigious events in golf, including the Masters, the PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup. His work in tennis includes covering 25 US Opens and serving as the lead play-by-play announcer for 10 singles finals.

In addition, Macatee, 59, has done NFL play-by-play for CBS Sports, and he’s twice co-anchored network coverage of the Olympics (1998 Winter Games in Nagano, Japan, and 2006 Winter Games in Torino, Italy).

“On behalf of the USTA Foundation board of directors, we are proud to have Bill join us as a new leader and key figure in helping the Foundation achieve its goal in serving under-resourced youth, “ said Thomas Chen, President of the USTA Foundation Board of Directors. “He has enjoyed a wide-ranging and acclaimed career as a journalist, and we are thrilled to have him lend his experience and influence to helping us reach youth around the country so they can achieve their best in all their tennis and education endeavors.”

A resident of Dallas, Macatee serves as a board member for several organizations, including Media Source, Inc., and the Dallas Sports Commission, while also serving as a senior adviser for several investment firms.
