USTA, USTA Serves team up to support service men and women

USTA Military
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) and USTA Serves are working together in an effort to provide support and appreciation for our deployed servicemen and women who put their lives on the line.

USTA Serves received a generous grant from the National Recreation Foundation to help fund this new Adopt-A-Unit initiative. The program provides a way for tennis communities to get involved in adopting units of deployed service members by providing recreational and psychological support and sending them much-needed care packages and portable tennis equipment to the units. "We are proud and excited to be involved in this important effort to support our soldiers and their families," declared Mary Carillo, President, USTA Serves.

MACH Academy of Martinez, GA is one of the USTA Serves supported programs that is participating in the Adopt-A-Unit Outreach Program.

The Adopt-A-Unit goal is to provide 300 units with support from tennis communities across the US over the first 12 to 18 months of the program, impacting up to 30,000 soldiers and their families. The USTA has partnered with Wilson Sporting Goods to design a prepackaged carton of equipment (pop-up nets, racquets, balls and lines) that can be shipped directly from Wilson to the units. The portable tennis equipment can provide our soldiers with a recreational, therapeutic, and social means for reintegrating with family, friends and community upon their return home. The pop-up nets can be set up anywhere, including motor pools, asphalt surfaces and even in the desert-like conditions that many of these troops encounter while deployed.

To date 106 packages of portable tennis equipment have been sent out to our servicemen and women. Please join us in showing your support for our brave men and women in the military.
