USTA Foundation scholarship recipients meet Billie Jean King at the 2025 US Open
The USTA Foundation, the social impact arm of the United States Tennis Association Incorporated (USTA), announced that Nikola Parichkov (Brandon, Fla.) and Rachel Thompson (Columbia, S.C.) are the two national Novo Nordisk Donnelly Scholarship recipients. Each student was awarded a $15,000 scholarship. The recipient of the Novo Nordisk Donnelly Scholarship Coach Award is Jim Phipps (Lancaster, Pa.), who received $2,500 scholarship to go towards his involvement in coaching tennis. All three scholarship recipients had the opportunity to meet sports and cultural icon Billie Jean King on Thursday at the 2025 US Open.
The Novo Nordisk Donnelly Scholarships are awarded to high-achieving student-athletes living with diabetes. The scholarships are intended to support the student’s cost of tuition, educational materials and other related expenses at the college or university the student selects. The coach scholarship is intended to support a coach who teaches tennis in schools, clubs or other programs, while living with diabetes.
This scholarship is named in honor of Tracey Donnelly Maltby and Diane Donnelly Stone, who, along with their father, Bud Donnelly, all played Division I collegiate tennis while living with the challenges of Type 1 diabetes. Novo Nordisk, a global healthcare company that has been making innovative medicines to help people with diabetes for nearly a century, is the title sponsor of the award. The scholarship is also supported by Dexcom, Tandem Diabetes Care and Cecelia Health.
