USTA Serves, the national charitable foundation of the United States Tennis Association, announced the appointment of Thomas S. Chen of Short Hills, N.J., to its Board of Directors.

For more than 20 years, Chen has been in the investment banking industry and is currently a Senior Managing Director at Guggenheim Partners, where he heads the Financial Institutions Group. Prior to joining Guggenheim, he served as a Managing Director at Piper Jaffray and began his career at Merrill Lynch & Co.

Chen received an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a BS in Economics from Allegheny College, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude in 1989. He served on the Board of Trustees at Allegheny College, and he currently serves as a Board member for the United Way of New York City.

Chen resides in Short Hills, N.J., with his wife Angela, son Alex and twin daughters, Victoria and Sydney. Tennis is an important part of the Chen family activities, as they enjoy the sport as both players and fans. The Chens participate in several USTA leagues, representing Centercourt Athletic Club in Chatham, N.J.

"We are very excited to welcome Tom to the USTA Serves board," said Deborah Slaner Larkin, Executive Director, USTA Serves. "His passion for the game, business expertise and genuine understanding of the benefits of integrating tennis and education will significantly broaden our efforts to enhance the lives of at-risk youth and people with disabilities."
